Christmas Tour for Skiers & Snowboarders

(Inclusions in italics)

Experience a traditional European Christmas and ski in three of Europe's most spectacular and famous resorts in the Swiss Alps.

This independent Christmas tour for skiers can be extended or combined with any of our other tours to create a unique itinerary.

Zermatt  11 to 16 December: Zermatt, the ulitmate skier's heaven, with the best developed and highest ski area in the Alps.  Almost one-third of the 4,000-metre high mountains in the Alps are grouped around this world-famous village.

Ski on the Theodul Glacier, have a mug of glühwein in a mountain hut before heading off for a romantic moonlight ski run back to the valley. Ski into Italy (and back) or even try kite skiing and paragliding. Fulfill your dream of skiing on untouched powder snow at 4200m on a heli-skiing or heli-boarding excursion. Go free-riding or ski touring with an experienced mountain guide. Try ice skating on a natural ice rink or ice-curling and ice-stick shooting. After a long day on the slopes enjoy a swiss fondue or hot chocolate in front of a fireplace.

Glacier Express Panorama Train from Zermatt to St Moritz  16 December: A rail journey of a lifetime through the clouds and snow-clad pristine Alpine countryside with roaring mountain streams, past the Rhine Gorge, Switzerland's 'Grand Canyon', across viaducts and through tunnels.

St Moritz  16 to 21 December: St Moritz will have to be one of the most fashionable ski resorts in the world. But don't let all that glitz and glamour distract you from the quality of the skiing. The sun shines for 320 days of the year and you will find the best powder snow on the slopes of the entire Engadine ski area that surrounds St Moritz. Owing to its high altitude snow is guaranteed in the pre- and after season and the view of the mountains is breathtaking.

This ski resort is known for its rustic and cosy ski lodges, where no “top-modern” concrete blocks architecture deprives the landscape of its beauty.  A mind-boggling range of alternative winter sports awaits you: cricket, polo and golf are played on the frozen lake, Lej da San Murezzan, throughout the winter season. Walk or use the cross country trails on and around the lake.  'Shop until you drop' in the wall-to-wall designer shops in glamorous St Moritz.

Klosters/Davos  21 to 26 December: Klosters, which has retained its village character, is neighbouring famous Davos. Choose from six snow sport regions, 318 km of pistes with guaranteed snow and 61 ski lifts. The ski areas of Davos and Klosters offer something for everyone, but Klosters has received awards for being a very family friendly resort.

Klosters is the ideal place to experience a true traditional Swiss Christmas. Enjoy the advent and Christmas festivities, ice bars, festive music and a horse-drawn sleigh ride through a winter wonderland. The sound of Alpenhorns during and an open-air Christmas night celebration in a forest clearing under the stars will make this Christmas a very special experience that you will treasure for years to come.

Enjoy the deep snow free-riding on mount Pischa, Switzerland's largest free-ride region, the snowboarding on the Jakobshorn, a Mecca for dedicated snowboarders, offering kickers, rails and a  monster pipe. Glide through a romantic side valley on cross-country skis or 'fly' over the snow on an Airboard. There is skidooing, tubing and fun for the youngest skiers at the children's ski kindi. Recover from the day's exertions in a steam bath or in a log sauna.

Zurich (optional) 26 to 27 December: Add a day in Zurich before heading home. Stroll in the old town and along the river and lake. Take a steam-boat ride on the lake if the lake is not frozen or a 19th Century funicular railway up to a viewing terrace above Zurich. Visit the Lindt chocolate factory.

The tour can also be taken at any other time between mid-December & March as a skiing holiday. Tour prices by application.
